How to obtain a visa

Foreigners who wish to carry out unpaid research work or training, or study or expand studies in any Spanish, public or private, officially recognized teaching or scientific centers, must have the corresponding study visa.

The study visa enables the foreigner to remain in Spain in a situation of stay for the realization of course, studies, research or training.

The application of the study visa with its corresponding photograph, presented personally by the interested party, shall be accompanied by:

  • Valid passport for the entire period for which the visa is requested and photocopy thereof
  •  Admission to a teaching center, public or private, officially recognized, to pursue or expand studies or carry out research or training, which must include the code number assigned to said center in the National Registry of Universities, centers and education or in the state registry of non-university teaching centers, both under the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as research centers recognized as such by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce or by the Ministry of Education and Science.
  • The content of the curriculum, training or research to be carried out
  • A medical insurance that covers, during the whole time of your stay in Spain, the medical expenses and repatriation associated with an accident or a sudden illness.
  • The provision of livelihoods and accommodation for the period requested and, where appropriate, to ensure return to the country of origin
  • In the case of underage students the corresponding authorization of parents or guardians

When the stay exceeds six months, it will also require:

  • Criminal record certificate if the applicant is of legal age. It must be issued by the authorities of the country of origin or of the country or countries where he has resided during the last five years and in which there are no convictions for crimes existing in the Spanish legal system. The certificate must have been issued during the 3 months prior to the visa application date. You must carry the Hague Apostille
  • Medical certificate that must prove that the applicant does not suffer from any of the diseases that could have serious public health repercussions in accordance with the provisions of the International Health Regulations of 2005.

In the event that the stay for studies exceeds 180 days, the student, within a month from his effective date of entry into Spain, must personally request the foreign student card before the competent authority of the locality where he goes to conduct your studies.

In some cases, the consulate asked for the Learning Agreement as a requirement for the visa. If it is your case, you need to contact with the school in which you are going to study and they will send you a scanned copy. If not, do not ask for it, you will sign this document one you arrive to the UPV as it should be.
